The basics

Who ever you are, where ever you are from, if you have faith or not, regardless of your parents, wealth (or lack there of), status or any other attribute we humans tend to hunt or labels we put on ourselves and others.

Everything around us, things that are, and things that happen to you, can be categorized into two things:

  • Things you cannot change or do anything about.
  • Things you can change and do anything about.

Either of the two above leaves you with two things to handle or relate to it:

  • Your time
  • Your choices

A thing you cannot change, you can give time to dwell about it and let it control your emotions. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to accept that you cannot change it, accept it as it is, and choose to do something else with your time. Spend it on developing a strategy for yourself to cope with the situation, to keep a positive attitude despite the thing(s) you cannot change, or focus your energy towards something completely different that gives you satisfaction in life.

A thing you can change, you can choose to, or you can again choose to give your time to dwell about it and let it control you emotions without changing it.

Should you choose to change it it may not go your way, but at least you have set things in motion to move from a place where you wanted something to change and took steps, gave it time, to ensure the change was in your control.

Because whether we like it or not, the world around us is in a constant change, and has been for as long as it has existed. The world around us will change whether we like it or not, and by making an active choice to try and control the changes to your liking or your own benefit gives you the best possible outcome in life. Opposed to when there is a possible choice that you do not make, and circumstances make it for you, you will just be along for the ride, without taking the chances to give yourself the best possible outcome.

Now, I will not in anyway say that making active choices is easy. Prepare for hard work. But I can promise that in the end it is rewarding. Another thing I cannot promise is that every time you make a choice, it will be as you expected it to be. In many occasions it will not be as you expected.

Some see that as failure, I see it as an opportunity to learn.

Here is a choice for you…

Do you want to see your life equation as:

  • You fall = – 1
  • You get up = +1
  • Total sum = -1 + 1 = 0, Status Quo

Or like this:

  • You fall = – 1
  • You get up = + 1
  • You learn = + 1
  • Total sum = – 1 + 1 + 1 = 1, you gained something.

A big part of making choices, or rather not making them, is excuses.

Again you can choose: accept the excuse and spend time explaining to yourself and others why this excuse is something that keeps you from what ever it is keeping you from.

Or you can make a different choice and overcome the excuse by giving a lot of time, effort and energy to leave the excuse behind you and prove it wrong.

The only limitations in your life is the one you set for yourself.

…and in the end, there are no right or wrong choices, only a choice and the consequences of it, regardless of it is an active choice or a passive choice that is made for you…
